Professional Surf Instruction

Picture
Bethany and Nick prove that anyone can surf if motivated and professionally instructed.

With the COVID 19 virus closing down gyms last year, surfing had a major resurgence. Unfortunately, it would appear, many of the newbies went to Costco and bought foamies. That's fine, if you have friends that are good surfers and are going to teach you the ropes. Standing up is the easy part, Rip currents, backwash, duck diving, avoiding pissing off locals, and learning how to take a ton of water on your head are the tough parts. A good instructor will cover the basics and make surfing a safer and enjoyable experience.

Surfing looks much easier than it really is. It is fairly more dangerous than most sports but much of the danger can be mitigated with good training. If you want to learn how to surf and don't have a best friend that is an expert, find the right instructor in your area. It's not just learning to paddle out and standup, it's the unwritten etiquette while out in the water. Think of a delicatessen! If you walked in and there were 15 people ahead of you, do you think they might lynch you if you ignored them and went right to the front of the line? Same difference in surfing. You take a number, pay your dues, and work your way up the hierarchy.

In order to fast track that process, please hire a professional surf instructor. Here are a few of the best in the Los Angeles area. Do not look for a surf instructor online! Go to your local beach and ask the locals who they recommend. When looking for surf instruction, consider there are different types available which we will distinguish below. There are also several good surf school programs available.
